Blackash™ was engaged to demonstrate how a proposed redevelopment of an existing Aged Care Facility with a new multi-stage development provided a better bushfire outcome than current arrangements on-site. A core component for the design and planning team was to provide enhanced movement through the site for residents while supporting emergency service.
Blackash used the performance and alternate solutions provisions in Planning for Bushfire Protection to demonstrate the performance-based outcome provided a safer outcome than simply meeting prescriptive requirements. Blackash successfully presented the case that provided considerable innovation in the implementation of a range of bushfire protection measures. The Rural Fire Service and Hornsby Council approved the solution and work has started on redeveloping the site.
